On 26th February 2015, Amb. Jean Kamau, Kenya High Commissioner to South Africa participated in a golf tournament organized by Kenya Airways at the Pecanwood Golf Club, South Africa.
The tournament is part of Kenya Airways Golf Safari 2014/15 Series. The series consists of 28 tournaments held in 13 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe over a period five months from 1st November, 2014 to 26th March, 2015.
Out of the 28 tournaments, 15 were to be held in different golf courses in Kenya. Besides Kenya the tournaments were also staged at golf courses in Uganda, China, Zambia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Thailand, Seychelles, Ethiopia and South Africa.
Winners in every round of the series walk away with a return ticket to one of the destinations that Kenya Airways flies within Africa, in addition to an opportunity to play in the grand finale slated for 26th March, 2015 in Nairobi.
The winner of the Grand Finale will take home the coveted KQ Golf Safari 2014/15 title, as well as a golf holiday for two to watch the British Open at the Home of Golf, The Old Course St. Andrews in July 2015.
The tournament is designed to promote Kenya as a top golf tourism destination. With more than 35 golf clubs across the country, reasonable green fees, a tourist friendly exchange rate, all-year-round golfing weather, adequate hotel bed space and regular flights to Europe and Asia, Kenya is poised to tap into the $2 billion a year golf tourism market.
